“"benefits to society from AI are going to be gigantic"”

Bezos has publicly acknowledged AI will "change every industry" and promised "gigantic benefits to society" — textbook elite self-exoneration that frames the disruption as ultimately positive for everyone. But this is pure hopium with zero acknowledgment of the human cost. The context makes this damning: Amazon has deployed 750,000 robots (and counting), and Bezos is personally funding Project Prometheus ($38B) to acquire and automate physical manufacturing at scale. He is the architect of massive labor displacement while offering vague societal reassurance and conspicuously silent on the workers his automation eliminates. "Gigantic benefits to society" without any mention of who pays the transition costs, who funds the retraining, or whether the math works — this is the cope of someone who knows the discontinuity is real but refuses to speak its name. Class A arsonist-firefighter dynamic with a side of wilful omission.
