As AI performs more cognitive production, humans receive fewer repetitions, accumulate less tacit competence, and lose bargaining power. Doomscrolling accelerates the decay; it is not the primary historical mechanism.

The author also assumes that more knowledge will translate into career security. Physics and calculus can sharpen thought, but difficulty alone is not a moat. If AI can teach, execute, and increasingly verify the same material, the hobby remains private enrichment unless converted into ownership, machine-complementary scarcity, or indispensable verification and maintenance work.

Hidden Assumptions

• Cognitive sharpness automatically becomes employability.
• Software and data careers will retain enough human-required work for self-study to compound.
• Individual discipline can outrun P1 cognitive automation and P2 coordination failure.
• Learning remains a durable labor-market moat rather than an AI-amplified commodity.
• A productive vacation proves durable recovery; it may only prove that attention is reversible when stimulation is removed.
• The core problem is distraction, not P3: the loss of economically necessary human labor.

Social Function

Classification: partial truth, transition management, and mild ideological anesthetic.

The practices work for the mind. The anesthetic is the implied solution: optimize the individual while leaving ownership of AI capital and control of productive infrastructure unexamined. This is not propaganda. It is a lucid personal report with the political economy cut out of the frame.

The Verdict

The vacation succeeded as cognitive maintenance and failed as an answer to obsolescence. The author has shown that a human mind can recover when fed difficulty instead of algorithmic sugar. That is real, but it is not sovereignty.

Under DT, the hobby matters economically only if it leads to Sovereign control of AI capital, Servitor status through rare machine-complementary expertise, or a transition niche in verification, infrastructure, energy, logistics, or maintenance. Otherwise, advanced physics is a valuable private life and a weak career hedge. Sharpening the instrument does not matter if the production line is replacing the operator.
